Here is an update of current and upcoming large scale feature production in Miami Beach.
Many of these dates have simply been changed due to Hurricanes Frances and Ivan.
September 13 throuQh September 27
National Lampoon's "Pledge This," starring Paris Hilton, films inside a private residence at
24 South Hibiscus. The production schedule is Monday through Friday (no weekend
filming) from 7AM until 10PM, with four dates (17, 22, 23 and 24) planning to film until
11 PM. The production has obtained an open lot at 101 North Hibiscus for base camp
parking and also the Rod and Reel Club for catering. In compliance with the Film and Print
Guidelines, the production has obtained an appropriate percentage of approvals from a
large affected area (roughly 500 feet in each direction) of the location house, as well as the
base camp lot. The Palm, Star and Hibiscus Neighborhood Association has
communicated concerns over this activity to the Film Office and the production and the
production is working to address these concerns. These concerns chiefly concern vehicle
parking on the street, which the permit prohibits and Miami Beach police will enforce,
personnel walking between base camp and location, which the production addressed with
multiple shuttle vans, and debris left by the production, which the production will eliminate
nightly by a hired sanitation company. The production is cognizant of neighborhood
concerns, noise issues and the current holiday schedule and is working to maintain as
minimal a visibility in the community as possible. Though the Film Office invariably looks to
the Palm, Star and Hibiscus Association for input on all productions on any of the islands,
by the Film and Print guidelines, their formal approval is not necessary in this instance.
Sunday, September 26
"Transporter 2" has rescheduled their activity on Collins Avenue from 23 Street to 26 Street
involving a wave-runner stunt. The scene is the end ofthe wave-runner's pursuit of a bus,
where the wave-runner runs out of canal at Indian Creek and jumps onto the street. The
production is breaking this action into three beats: 1. the wave-runner jumps from the water
into water in Indian Creek, using a stationed ramp, 2. a crane lifts the wave-runner in the
air from the water onto the street, 3. the wave-runner comes to a stop on Collins and the
rider races to catch the bus. To perform this action and ensure safety, Miami Beach police
will close southbound Collins Avenue from 23rd Street to 26 Street, re-routing southbound
traffic onto the western lane of northbound Collins Avenue, which will become two-way
traffic. Indian Creek drive will still run south through the eastward curve, but will reroute
southbound onto this rerouted lane. During the actual takes, police will coordinate five
minute maximum Intermittent Traffic Control (ITC) of both sides of Collins from 23rd to 26th
Street for safety. The production has obtained signed approvals from the businesses
along southbound Collins from 23rd to 26th and has re-issued notifications to all residents
on the other side of Indian Creek at this area, as well as the buildings north along Collins
and Indian Creek Drive to 41 Street. Message boards alerting drivers will be placed on 22nd
Street and northbound Collins and 27th Street and southbound Indian Creek Drive. In
addition to FDOT, police, fire and the Film Office, the production is working with DERM to
dredge the floor of Indian Creek and station a permitted ramp in the water. The production
is during daylight hours only, starting at 7AM. Due to this delay in the schedule, the
production and the Film Office have made further arrangements with the Collins Park
Association to address their concerns of resident access and egress along the eastern
portion of Collins Avenue.
