Tomorrow, October 5, will be the final day on Miami Beach for intensive production and stunt work for the
feature film "Transporter 2". Much of what they are filming involves recapturing the same action they
filmed earlier, but now with the lead actor present in the scenes. Our off-duty police and fire units are fully
in coordination with the production and will be on hand in great numbers to protect the area and public.
As this production comes to an end, it is worth pointing out that they are, like the rest of us, the first
production to undergo the effects of four major Hurricanes.
Tomorrow's activity features the followina:
6AM-2PM: Alleyway between Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue, from 7 Street to 10 Street
The scene is of the hero's car eluding police cars through the alley, entering at 7 Street and exiting at 9th
Street towards Washington Avenue. The filming of the scene will be broken down into three segments, a
block at a time, to minimize inconvenience to the business owners who use the alley. 9th Street will be
closed to traffic for staging and a larger stunt. For this segment, police will intermittently control traffic at
entry points along Washington and Collins Avenues.
In addition to police and fire coordination, the production has re-canvassed the area and received nearly
unanimous approval for the re-shoots. They will park production vehicles at nearby meters with business
approvals only. The production will also remind all businesses not to open their back entrances during
filming and will offer assistants to stay in the doorways to maintain safety. VMS message board have
been placed on Collins and Washington to advise of delays due to production activity.
12PM-6PM: Washington Avenue and Euclid, south of 5 Street
The scene involves the hero's car driving south on Euclid from 5th Street where he is intercepted by police
cars at 3rd Street. The hero car drives around the police car, heading south on Washington, where two
other police cars pursue from the East side of 3rd Street. These three cars continue south on Washington,
turning East onto 1 st Street.
For this scene, the production will need to intermittently control all traffic on Washington from 5tih Street to
South Pointe Drive, as well as Euclid from 5th to 3rd, and 1st through 4th Streets on both sides of
Washington. A full police staffing plan will be implemented and the control will be for 3 to 5 minute lengths
at a time. Police will also move drivers onto Collins and Meridian during the closure. The production will
need to reserve all of the meters in this area to maintain a clear space for picture and to ensure safety. It
will not be necessary to close businesses and the production is working with all businesses, as well as the
residents, to try to ensure their needs are met.
12-8PM
The production will effectively "close" South Pointe Park and beach in the afternoon to allow them to get
pick-up shots of the car driving along the footbridge south of Smith & Wollen sky and along the hard pack
sand east of the boardwalk. The production has rented the park and will keep the public at a distance
during these driving sequences.
8PM-11 PM
The production has two scenes at night on 9th Street and Collins and in Collins Court south of 9th Street.
These are small dialogue scenes without stunt work. Because they are night sequences, the production will
need to erect lighting on large "condor" towers at select locations. The production is working with the
neighborhood to minimize any inconvenience this may cause. Although these scenes will be filmed tomorrow
evening, 9th Street from Collins Avenue to Washington Avenue will be closed beginning at 6 p.m. this evening
until 11 p.m. Tuesday evening.
