Gonzaliz ~ City Manager "..,... {) ALL HANDS MIAMI BEACH DAY Date: October 27,2004 To: Subject: The purpose of this LTC is to inform you that the City of Miami Beach, Neighborhood Services Department developed and is promoting "All Hands on Miami Beach Day" on November 6th, 2004. The "All Hands on Miami Beach" event was created as a result of the Volunteer Network as well as partnerships with local agencies: Brownies, Boy Scouts, local teen programs, environmental groups, schools, resident associations and Hands on Miami, Inc. (HOM), Hands on Miami, Inc. has been developing partnerships with schools, local governments, social service and environmental groups since 1993. On Saturday, November 6th, 2004, volunteers will come together to form a community partnership in order to clean up and help restore the City of Miami Beach's largest park, North Shore Open Space Park. The main focus of this cleanup will be to help preserve and enhance the coastal dune system and native vegetation. The project begins at 9:00 a.m. on site at Collins Avenue and 81st Street and will end at 12:00 p.m. Additionally, volunteers will participate in the "Paint the Boardwalk" Project, painting the boardwalk from 21st to 46th St., while others will be planting trees and shrubs at South Pointe Park. A total of 600 volunteers have agreed to give of their time and energy to Miami Beach. November 6th is an annual day of community service and civic participation for the HOM organization. We are supporting their efforts through our project "All Hands on Miami Beach Day". The partnership with HOM will enable the City to develop programs that will support City staff and residents and increase civic participation throughout the City. We would like to invite the Mayor and Commission to participate in this event as a statement of support to those who are giving their time for the improvement of our environment, and to bring North Shore Open Space Park, the boardwalk and South Pointe Park to the attention of the families in Miami Beach who could benefit from sharing in these wonderful resources, There are picnic tables, BBQ pits and interesting walkways with lots to see and of course, easy access to the beach.
