This letter to the City of Miami Beach Commission is to provide information relative to
recommended notification priorities for residents and renters to notify their respective alarm
companies upon activation of their alarm.
In keeping with our Department's commitment to reduce the police response time to
activated residential alarm calls, the following interventions are recommended to home
owners and renters. The home owner or renter is encouraged to notify their alarm
company that when an alarm is activated the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD)
should be the first to be notified, prior to notifying any other party including the homeowner.
If a false alarm is activated after the third time in a twelve month period, the MBPD will
waive the fine until March 1, 2005. It is projected that based on our current rate of fine
revenue of $400 per month, that approximately $1200 in lost revenue will be realized over
the three month grace period. The intent of this provision is to educate Miami Beach
residents and renters in an effort to limit residential burglaries.
