99-23307 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 99-23307 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPR<.>VING THE SELECTION OF ARTISTS AND DESIGNS FOR ARTWORK FOR EXTERIOR PLACEMENT ON THE ELECTROW A VE VEIDCLES. WHEREAS, the City has allocated $15,000 to the Art in Public Places Committee (AIPP) to expand on the acquisition of artistic designs for the exteriors of four new electric shuttles (Electrowave) operated by the Miami Beach Transportation Management Association (MBTMA); and WHEREAS, the MBTMA utilized the expertise of the AIPP to seek design proposals from area artists, and over 400 requests for proposals were distributed throughout the South Florida area, including Miami Beach schools; and WHEREAS, the proposals were reviewed by the AIPP and the Administration and the following artists were selected: Christian Bernard, Eduard Duval Carrie, Cristina Khuly, and Dina Knapp; and WHEREAS, the MBTMA requests that the Mayor and City Commission approve the selection of the aforestated artists to provide exterior designs for the four new electric shuttle (Electrowave) vehicles. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission herein approve and authorize the selection of artists and designs for the four new electric shuttle (Electrowave) vehicles. BACKGROUND The city has allocated $15,000 to the Art in Public Places Committee (AIPP) to expand on the acquisition of artistic designs for the exteriors of the four new electric shuttles (Electrowave) operated by the Miami Beach Transportation Management Association (MBTMA). The MBTMA utilized the expertise of the AIPP to seek design proposals from area artists and over 400 requests for proposals were distributed throughout the south Florida area including Miami Beach schools. ANALYSIS A total of 111 artists submitted designs. The proposals were reviewed by the Art in Public Places Committee and the Administration and the following artists were selected: Christian Bernard, Eduard Duval Carrie, Cristina Khuly, and Dina Knapp. CONCLUSION The Miami Beach Transportation Management Association requests that the City Commission approve the selection of artists to provide exterior designs for the four new electric shuttle vehicles. &:~:J AGENDA ITEM c.1is~ DATE~~~~9- 30
