LTC 021-2005 Demolition of Par 3 Golf Course Starter Shack & the Washington Ave Park Bldgs. CITY OF MIAMI BEACH Office of the City Manager Letter to Commission No. 021-2005 lQ To: From: Mayor David Dermer and Date: January 28, 2005 Members of the City Commission Jorge M. Gonzalez \ .......... ~ City Manager ().r ð Demolition of the Par 3 Golf Course Starter Shack and the Washington Avenue Park Buildings Subject: Please be advised that we are progressing with the demolition of dilapidated buildings in two locations. The starter's shack on the Par 3 golf course as well as the restroom and small recreation building located in Washington Avenue Park are scheduled to be demolished next week. The facilities at both locations were deemed to be in extremely poor condition and needed to be removed. The Washington Avenue Park buildings have been discussed as part of the design and planning process for the Park renovations. The demolition of the buildings was discussed in the community meetings that created the design. The residents in the area were also notified via mail and newspaper of the scheduled hearing to discuss the Washington Park issue before the Historic Preservation Board. At the HP meeting there were no objections from the public or board members and the request for demolition was approved as there was no historic significance to the structures being removed. The demolition of the starter shack does not alter any of the plans or discussions relative to the Par 3. The demolition will only remove an unsightly and unsafe building. There are no plans to rebuild the facility at this time. The Par 3 Starter Shack demolition was discussed by the Golf Advisory Board. The contractor has received all compliance certificates required, including DERM approvals, and has pulled the demolition permits for the projects. Demolition is scheduled to begin on Monday. The facilities at both locations should be down by the end of next week. JMG"J·. "lKS c: ~;obert C.
