The Parks & Recreation Department is proud to have been selected by the Miami-Dade
County Health Department to host the County's signature event as it celebrates "Step Up
Florida.' Step Up Florida is a Florida Department of Health statewide program aimed at
promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles among the states' residents and visitors.
Dignitaries from the Florida Department Health, the Miami-Dade County Commission and
the Miami City Commission have been invited to attend an official ceremony marking
Miami-Dade County's participation in Step Up Florida. The ceremony will be held at Noon,
Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the North Shore Park & Youth Center. We understand
that you will be receiving official invitations from Miami-Dade County Health Department.
About 150 youth participating in the event will stop at North Shore Park & Youth Center on
their walk across Miami-Dade County from Monroe County on the south to Broward County
on the north. At the Center they will have lunch, rest and watch a hip-hop presentation in
the gymnasium.
Our Department became involved with this event as part of its outreach to state and local
agencies that promote healthy lifestyles for adults and children. Our department has begun
a pilot program of our own at the Scott Rakow Youth Center to support parents in the fight
against childhood obesity.

recreational programs that offer something for every member of the family.
