A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, CALLING A
PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER PUBLIC COMMENT
REGARDING CHANGING THE NAME OF ALLISON ROAD
TO ALLISON ISLAND DRIVE.
WHEREAS, Jonathan D. Beloff, President of the Homeowners' Association of Allison, Inc.
has approached the City in an effort to change the name of Allison Road; and
WHEREAS, the request to change the name from Allison Road to Allison Island Drive was
reviewed and unanimously approved by the Community Affairs Committee at its meeting of
September 29, 1999; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Article VI, Section 82-504 of the City Code, the Mayor and City
Commission shall hold a public hearing advertised not less than ten (10) days prior to said hearing,
in order to obtain citizen input into said renaming.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a public hearing to
consider public comment regarding the renaming of Allison Road to Allison Island Drive is hereby
called to be held before the Mayor and City Commission in its Chambers of the Third Floor of City
Hall, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida on October 20, 1999, beginning at 2:00
P.M. and the City Clerk is hereby authorized to publish appropriate public notice ofthe said public
hearing in a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Miami Beach, at which time and place all
interested parties will be heard.

ADMINISTRA TION RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt the Resolution.
BACKGROUND:
On July 21, 1999, the Mayor and City Commission referred an item to the Community Affairs
Committee regarding the renaming of Allison Road to Allison Island. Mr. Jonathan Beloff, President
of the Homeowners' Association of Allison, Inc. submitted the request.
A review of the current street names for islands on Miami Beach indicates that typically, primary
roadways on Miami Beach islands are named Drives. Accordingly, in order to avoid confusion with
the actual island, the Community Affairs Committee and Homeowners' Association concurred that
Allison Road be renamed Allison Island Drive, in conformance with the current naming structure for
islands on Miami Beach.
The Community Affairs Committee, at its meeting of September 29, 1999, unanimously approved a
motion changing the name of Allison Road to Allison Island Drive.
Article VI, Section 82-504 of the City Code states that the City Commission shall call a public hearing
to obtain public input regarding the renaming of any street located on Miami Beach.
CONCLUSION:
The Administration recommends the setting of a public hearing for the October 20, 1999 City
Commission meeting, at 2:00 p.m., regarding changing the name of Allison Road to Allison Island
Drive as recommended by the Homeowners' Association of Allison, Inc. and the Community Affairs
Committee.
