95-21610 Reso Incomplete RESOLUTION No. 95-21610 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A MAINTENANCE CONTRACT RENEWAL TO THE MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT (MOA), CONTRACT No. B-9112, WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (FDOT) FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE LANDSCAPING FOR 1-195 (JULIA TUTTLE CAUSEWAY) FROM THE EAST END OF THE WESTERNMOST BRIDGE TO ALTON ROAD, FOR THE PERIOD OF SEPTEMBER 1,1995 TO AUGUST 31, 1996, WHEREAS, many roadside areas and median strips abutting Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) right-of-way areas must be maintained and attractively landscaped; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No, 94-21011 on January 5, 1994, establishing the Julia Tuttle Causeway Landscape Beautification Program; and WHEREAS, the FOOT has participated in this beautification program by contributing $144,763 for construction and additional landscape of the areas between the two high bridges; and WHEREAS, the FOOT has agreed to compensate the City $37,500 per quarter, for a total of $150,000 per year, for the cost of maintaining said landscaping, as per the Highway Landscaping Memorandum of Agreement, as approved by Resolution No, 94-21210 on July 13, 1994; and WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation has expressed its interest in renewing said Memorandum of Agreement for another twelve month period beginning on September 1, 1995 and concluding on August 31,1996, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and the City Clerk are authorized to execute the attached Maintenance Contract Renewal to the Memorandum of Agreement (Contract No, B-9112) currently in effect between the Florida Department of Transportation and the City of Miami Beach for the maintenance of the landscaping for 1-195 (Julia Tuttle Causeway) from the east end of the Westernmost bridge to Alton Road, PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 21st day of ,1995, ATTEST: {'-f~(/~~ {' ri~t~~__ CITY CLERK FORM APPRQVED \LE~-DEPT. ~ By /4a-th./'I-~ ~ Date ~/;f-). This Agreement is for a period of one year with the option to renew it for two additional years if mutually agreed to by both parties. The Department desires to exercise the First renewal option of this Agreement. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission approve the attached Resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a Maintenance Contract Renewal to the Memorandum of Agreement currently in effect between the Florida Department of Transportation and the City of Miami Beach for the landscape maintenance of the Julia Tuttle Causeway, Contract No, B-9112. BACKGROUND: The City Commission adopted Resolution No, 94-21011 on January 5, 1994, establishing the Julia Tuttle Causeway Landscape Beautification Program. The FDOT participated in this beautification program by contributing $144,763 to the construction and additionally landscaped the areas between the two high bridges. Continued, . , AGENDA ITEM ~-1- ~ DATE~ Commission Memorandum No. Page 2 To ensure the maintenance levels meets acceptable standards of the City of Miami Beach, FDOT agreed to compensate the City $37,500 per quarter for a total of $150,000 per year, for the cost of maintaining said landscaping, as per the Highway Landscape Memorandum of Agreement that was approved by the City Commission on July 13, 1994, Resolution No, 94-21210, This agreement is now in the third quarter and the State of Florida is very pleased with the level of maintenance being provided, Therefore FDOT has chosen to exercise its option to renew the contract with the City for the next twelve month period beginning on September 1, 1995, ANALYSIS: In order to ensure the continuance of the FDOT funding for the landscape maintenance of the Julia Tuttle Causeway, the City must execute the Maintenance Contract Renewal to the existing Memorandum of Agreement for the period of September 1, 1995 to August 31, 1996, The City is currently in the third quarter of the first year of this agreement and to date has submitted an invoice to FDOT for $75,000, receipt of this amount is anticipated in the immediate future. Execution of the Maintenance Contract Renewal will ensure continuation of this reimbursement for the next twelve month period. CONCLUSION: The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission approve the attached Resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the Maintenance Contract Renewal to the Memorandum of Agreement currently in effect between the Florida Department of Transportation and the City of Miami Beach for the landscape maintenance of the Julia Tuttle Causeway, Contract No, B-9112.
