Subject: SIDEWALK PROJECT ON PINE TRE
This is to inform you that the County Commissioners have approved the sidewalk repairs
on La Gorce Drive and Pine Tree Drive between West 51 st Street and West 63rd Street, in
the amount of $143,826.25.
The sidewalks on those two sections of La Gorce Drive and Pine Tree Drive have been in
poor condition for a number of years and the City over the years received numerous
complaints from residents in that area of Miami Beach. Since 2003, the City Administration
has requested, as shown on the attached letter to the County Manager, that the sidewalks
be repaired or replaced; however, the County had limited funding under the County's
Quality Neighborhoods Improvement Program which allocated annual funding to each
District County Commissioner. Commissioner Sally Heyman of District 4 had an annual
allocation of approximately $100,000 for projects for the cities of Miami, Miami Beach, and
North Miami Beach; therefore, other priorities had taken precedence over the requests
from Miami Beach and its residents.
After the passing of the People's Transportation Program tax, the County had additional
funds available for Right-of-Way improvements. I am happy to report that the repair and/or
replacemen f sidewalks along La Gorce Drive and Pine Tree Drive is scheduled to start
on Augus ~O~A

This letter. is to request your assistance in getting the. sidewalks alongside Pine Tree Drive
repaired and/or replaced as soon as possible. County crews for the past few years have
applied an asphalt levelIng course any time a sidewalk is cracked, spalled, Or broken.
Residents of this neighborhood have repeatedly complained apout the unsightly
appearance of their sidewalks and we have repeatedly requested your Public Works
Department .ta repair and/or replace these sidewalks.
We have been told that thewholesafe repair and/or.replacementof si.dewalks is packaged
into capital improvement projects and funded under the County's Quality NeighborhooQs
Improvement Program. UnfortUnately to date, in. spite of our efforts and some of our
cammissioners'efforts. we have been unabletogetthe projectfunded. I urge you to move
up the priority of this project, or to find alternate sources of funding. It is a significant
quality of life issue for the residents of this Miami Beach neighborhood.
