Gonzalez l' ~.~ City Manager U v-o MIAMI VICE - PRODUCTION OVERVIEW Date: July 6, 2005 To: Subject: This letter is to update the Mayor and Commission on the current and proposed schedule of filming activity in Miami Beach for the feature film "Miami Vice." Miami Beach is pleased to host the first day of principal photography on this project, starting Monday, June 27, at Mansion Nightclub on Washington Avenue. The schedule calls for three days of filming inside the club with all of the principal actors and many extras and crew. The production will utilize the surrounding area and lots, including closure of the 200 block of 13 Street, as well as the hard pack west of the dune from 13 to 14 Streets for their production vehicle parking, base camp and extras holding areas. From Tuesday, July 5 through Thursday, July 7, from 11 PM to 5AM each night, the production is executing an ambitious closure of the southbound lanes of 1-95 from 395 to US-1, with intermittent control of the northbound lanes in this area during filming. This process is being cOQrdinated with a multi-jurisdictional plan as well as extensive media and community outreach. The production has assured that traffic east- and westbound along 395 in and out of Miami Beach will maintain continuous flow, with the exception of a sequence from 2AM until5AM July 8, when police will coordinated a driving sequence that will involved intermittent traffic control (ITC) of no more than 5 minute intervals of westbound traffic from Watson Island to the closure area. The production will also perform a similar ITC on westbound 195 on Tuesday, July 5 from 8:30PM to 11 PM. On Friday, July 8, the production is proposing an all-night filming at a residence on Palm Island. This location is currently under review and consideration by the affected residents, the Palm, Star, Hibiscus Neighborhood Association and the Film and Print Office. Out of respect to the neighborhood, the production will keep the majority of their vehicle activity off the island and locate it on Watson Island. The production is exploring using the interior of an office building on 16 Street and Michigan Avenue on Monday, July 11. Details of this day have yet to be worked out. Further planned or proposed filming includes the following locations: . Miami Beach Marina . An off-shore boat race with the Miami Beach skyline as the backdrop . The Continuum Condominium . A private residence on North Bay Road . The mouth of Government Cut Additional locations have not been selected and may include locations in Miami Beach. The production is scheduled to film in South Florida through September, before finishing the filming activity in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Each location chosen in Miami Beach has or will go through a rigorous coordination and permitting process that typically includes the Film Office, Police, Fire, Parking, Code Enforcement, Public Works, Neighborhood Services and Media Relations, as well as the impacted Neighborhood Association.
