Gonzalez October 12,2005 o~ DATE: SUBJECT: Teens Wash Cars To Help Katrina Hurricane Victims Members of the North Shore Teen Club raised $744 to help the City's overall Hurricane Katrina Relief program Saturday, October 1, 2005. Twenty-three Teen Club members washed cars for a total of $672 and sold $72 worth of lcee drinks. A photo montage of the event is attached. The Hurricane Relief Car Wash is just the latest chapter of positive achievement in the ongoing success story of the North Shore Teen Club. Started by Recreation program Supervisor Willie Priegues in December, 2004 with 5 teens, the Club now has 65 members. Its provides a safe alternative to the "street," gives. kids the opportunity to experience different cultural activities, and through the volunteer hours the children are required to perform, teaches the value of hard work and responsibility. A "Movie in the Pari<" and Hurricane Relief program at North Shore Park Friday, September 23, raised another $2,090. That event drew a record 1,050 residents and guests, and featured music from the Nautilus Middle School band and face painting by Fienberg-Fisher Elementary School teachers and parents. Please marle your calendar for these upcoming Paries & Recreation Department programs: . Movie in the Park, Friday, October 28, 2005, Flamingo Park . Haunted Skating, Monday, October 31,2005, Scott Rakow Youth Center . Halloween Party, Monday, October 31, 2005, North Shore Band shell . And please remember, entry fees have now been waived at pools and youth centers during non-programmed hours. You are cordially invited to visit our facilities and experience firsthand the recreational programs that offer something for every member of the family.
