SUBJECT: STATUS OF THE BLUE RIBBON CITY MANAGER SEARCH
COMMITTEE - UPDATE # 1
In order to ensure that the Mayor and Members of the City Commission are informed of the progress
of the Blue Ribbon City Manager Search Committee, periodic updates will be provided via LTC's.
The next meeting of the Blue Ribbon City Manager Search Committee is scheduled for
February 2, 2000 at 6:00 p.m., in the 1st Floor Conference Room.
Mayor Kasdin and Members of the City Commission have been invited to attend the meeting to
profile their ideal city manager. The meeting will be noticed and members of the public will be
invited to speak. It is the intent of the Blue Ribbon City Manager Search Committee to have a
number of professional search firms attend this meeting.
January 12. 2000
Mr. Berkman made a presentation to the City Commission, A resolution was approved waiving the
competitive bidding for a search firm and appropriated an amount not to exceed $40,000 to cover
expenses related to the process. The resolution was approved.
January 6. 2000:
First meeting of the Blue Ribbon City Manager Search Committee. Mr, Ron Berkman was selected
as the chairperson. The Committee requested that the City Commission and members of the public
attend the next meeting and profile the ideal city manager. The Committee agreed to ask the City
Commission for authorization to employ a professional search firm and to allocate up to $40,000 to
fund search related expenses. The Committee also agreed that there will be no lobbying of the
Committee,

December 15. 1999:
Lawrence Levy sworn in as City Manager effective December 18, 1999,

Sergio Rodriguez's last commission meeting.
December 1. 1999:
City Commission Agenda item R9E - Discussion regarding the city manager selection process. The
City Commission formed a Blue Ribbon Search Committee with the Mayor and each Commissioner
making an individual appointment. The following appointments were made:

The City Commission also appointed Lawrence Levy City Manager effective Saturday, December
18, 1999.
