A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING
AN INCREASE IN THE VALET PARKING RATE AT THE
MIAMI BEACH CONVENTION CENTER AND JACKIE
GLEASON THEATER OF THE PERFORMING ARTS, FROM
$7.00 PER CAR TO $9.00 PER CAR.
WHEREAS, on June 15, 1994 the Mayor and City Commission approved a valet pro ki: 19
rate increase from $6.00 per car to $7.00 per car for the Miami Beach Convention Center (MHO:)
and Jackie Gleason Theater of the Performing Arts (TaPA); and
WHEREAS, the Convention Center Advisory Board has recommended that the valet pro kiJ 19
rate at MBCC and TOP A, be increased from $7.00 per car, to $9.00 per car; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Parking and Transportation Committee recommend~d
that the valet parking rate at MBCC and TaPA be awarded a two-step increase from $7.00 pel' c. r,
to $8.00 per car in 1997, and from $8.00 per car, to $9.00 per car in 1998; and
WHEREAS, the Administration recommends a one time increase in the valet parking rat~,
from $7.00 to $9.00 per car; and
WHEREAS, the requested increase in the rate is comparable to the valet parking rat:s
charged at similar facilities in the Tri-County area.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND cn'v

PER CAR
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
The Administration recommends the Mayor and City Commission authorize an increase of the valet parking
rate at the Convention Center and Theater of the Perfonning Arts from $7.00 per car to $9.00 per car.
BACKGROUND:
On June 15, 1994, the Mayor and City Commission approved an increase of the valet rate at the
Convention Center and Theater of the Perfonning Arts from $6.00 per car, to $7.00 per car. On Septemt'er
15, 1996, Gold Star Parking was awarded a one year renewal of its contract with the City as the va .et
parking service provider for the Convention Center and the Theater of the Performing Arts. The contractor
has requested an increase in the valet parking rate from $7.00 to $10.00 per car.
The City's Transportation and Parking Committee and the Convention Center Advisory Board has beth
considered the requested increase in the valet rate and have recommended an increase to $9.00 per car, 110t
$10.00 per car, as requested.
ANALYSIS:
Valet rates at comparable facilities in the Tri-County area are between $8.00 per car and $17.00 per car.
The Parking Department perfonned a survey of rates charged for many South Florida venues and found that
the request was both in line and reasonable.

This increase will result in an increase of revenues to the City of approximately $15,000.

CONCLUSION:
Based on rates for valet services at similar facilities, coupled with the increase in the cost of living and cost
of expenses, the Administration recommends that an increase in the valet rate at the Convention Center :me
Theater of the Performing Arts from $7.00 per car to $9.00 per car be granted to the valet service provider
Gold Star Parking.
