RESOLUTION NO. 99-23401
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE
ARCHDIOCESE OF MIAMI'S REQUEST FOR A COMPLETE
WAIVER OF RENTAL CHARGES, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED $49,950, FOR THE ARCHDIOCESE MILLENNIUM
EVENT OF MARCH 31-APRIL 2, 2000, AT THE MIAMI BEACH
CONVENTION CENTER.
WHEREAS, the Archdiocese of Miami is producing its Jubilee 2000 event at the Miami
Beach Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, this event will provide a weekend long celebration of the millennium for
residents of Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, at its regular meeting of October 1999, the Convention Center Advisory Board
approved a 10% reduction from the $55,500 rent for this event; and
WHEREAS, the Archdiocese of Miami is requesting a waiver of the remaining rental
charges of $49,950; and
WHEREAS, the City has determined that this will be in the best interest of its residents to
waive the rental charges.
NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission herein approve a complete waiver of rental charges, in an amount not to exceed
$49,950, for the Archdiocese Millennium event on March 31-Apri12, 2000, at the Miami Beach
Convention Center.

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
On March 31-April 2, 2000, the Archdiocese of Miami is producing its Jubilee 2000 event at the
Miami Beach Convention Center. This event will be a weekend-long celebration of the Millennium,
featuring opportunities for worship and multi-cultural offerings of food, products, and other
fellowship and community sharing.
At its regular meeting of October 28, 1999, the Convention Center Advisory Board (CCAB) was
requested to address a cost reduction request for this event. Based on current information available,
the projected full facility rent for this event is $55,500, based on two exhibit halls for three move-in
and three show days each and one meeting room quadrant for one show day. Exercising its limited
ability to grant reductions, the CCAB approved a reduction of 10% or $5,550, from full facility rent,
resulting in remaining rental charges of $49,950. The Archdiocese is requesting consideration for
a further waiver of rental charges up to the remaining $49,950. The Lessee will be responsible for
all ancillary labor, equipment, and service charges above and beyond the facility rental charges.
Based on past history surrounding a similar cultural celebration presented by the Greater Miami
Jewish Federation in 1998, the Administration recommends the waiver of facility rental charges not
to exceed $49,950 for the Archdiocese of Miami Jubilee 2000 event.
