The total estimated funds from this grant are $543,634, of which $489,271 will be funded by the United States Department of Justice. The remaining $54,363 of matching funds will be funded by the City from the Police Confiscations account. The grant funds will be available on October 1, 2000. The grant will be used to fund three new non-sworn positions, salaries and benefits for two years ($201,343), purchase equipment ($204,791) and fund supplemental overtime for crime prevention programs throughout the city ($137,500). A detailed list of expenditures is attached. The Mayor and City Commission approved the application at the regular meeting of October 6, 1999 (Resolution No. 99-23343). As such, the Mayor and City Commission should schedule a Public Hearing for Wednesday, January 26, 2000, at 11 :00 AM. AGENDA ITEM c..1S DATE~ The proposed use of these funds, as set forth in the attached list, has the approval of the Administration and was also endorsed by the Dade-Miami Criminal Justice Council on November 23, 1999. The Public Hearing will provide the public the opportunity to comment on the proposed use of the Block Grant Funds and meet the requirement for a public hearing.
