2000-23790 RESO RESOLUTION NO.2000-23790 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING, ON BEHALF OF THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT, TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NEW LAW ENFORCEMENT AGAINST CHILD HARM (LEACH) OPERATIONAL TASK FORCE. WHEREAS, the Broward Sheriffs Office received a grant from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OnDP) to fund law enforcement in investigating and combating the exploitation of children which occurs through the use of computers by providing funding for equipment, training, and expenses, including travel and overtime funding by creation of a multi-agency task force; and WHEREAS, the Broward Sheriff s Office has created the Law Enforcement Against Child Harm (LEACH) Task Force along with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, The Miami- Dade Police Department and the City of Miami Police Department; and WHEREAS, the LEACH Task Force desires to expand and add the Miami Beach Police Department; and WHEREAS, the Task Force will provide the Miami Beach Police Department with training, technical equipment, support, and overtime funds for any child falling within the purview of the Task Force. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA HEREIN AUTHORIZE, the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a Memorandum of Understanding, on behalf of the Miami Beach Police Department, to participate in the New Law Enforcement Against Child Harm (LEACH) Operational Task Force. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION Adopt the Resolution. ANALYSIS The Broward Sheriff s Office received a grant from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to fund law enforcement in investigating and combating the exploitation of children which occurs through the use of computers by providing funding for equipment, training, and expenses, including travel and overtime funding through the creation of a multi-agency task force. In furtherance of the grant, the Broward Sheriffs Office has created the Law Enforcement Against Child Harm (LEACH) Task Force along with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Miami-Dade Police Department and the City of Miami Police Department. The LEACH Task Force desires to expand and add the Miami Beach Police Department. The Task Force will provide the Miami Beach Police Department with training, technical equipment, support, and overtime funds for any investigation falling within the purview of the Task Force. There are no matching funds required for this participation.
