SUBJECT: Tall Walking, Honoring Mom, Short Graduates and a Swim-In Movie
Children from the City of Miami Beach Parks & Recreation Department joined counterparts
from the Miami-Dade system to perform "Walking Tall" skills at the North Shore Park Youth
Center Saturday, April 29, 2006. The show was the latest joint project between the Miami
Beach Parks & Recreation Department and the Miami Performing Arts Center. The kids
walked on stilts, juggled, and displayed acrobatic and tumbling feats.
Three and four-year olds in the Normandy Shores "Playtime" program honored their mothers
Wednesday, May 1 0, 2006 with breakfast, clothing, jewelry and entertainment. It was part
of the special Mothers' Day program that also included a full morning of dancing, singing and
games. The children had decorated special T-shirts and pins which the moms wore with pride
throughout the activities. We think the mothers had more fun than the kids. Eighteen mothers
and kids participated.
The Playtime Program graduated nine little boys and girls at a ceremony Friday, May 12,
2006 at Normandy Shores Park. The kids sang, danced and showed off their own musical
band before receiving their diplomas and enjoying refreshments with their parents.
More than 200 parents and children turned out for the second Scott Rakow Youth Center
"Movie in the Pool" Friday, May 12, 2006. Most watched "Cheaper By the Dozen 2" from
the pool, while others stayed dry along the pool deck and enjoyed hot dogs, chips and sodas.
