AFTER-HOURS CLUBS REQUESTS TO EXTEND DAYS
DURING THE WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE 2000
Sunday, March 25 - Wednesday, March 29, 2000
On Sunday, March 25th, the Winter Music Conference Convention will be taking place in the City
of Miami Beach. This will be the 15th year of the conference. Last year's attendance at WMC was
estimated at over 4,600. More than 90°~ of the WMC delegation travel from outside the Tri-County
area and stay at Miami Beach hotels for an average of five nights during the conference week -
filling more than 15,525 room nights in Miami Beach each year. WMC is the top convention in the
world for the music industry professionals in the dance and electronic music genre.
For nine years WMC has taken place on Miami Beach. During this time the organizers have worked
closely with city officials, cultural groups, not-for-profit organizations and local businesses to ensure
the maximum benefit to delegates and the community.
Ordinance No. 99-3~22 states dance halls ... may operate only between the ho-rs of 4:00 a.m. and
9:00 a.m. on Sat, rdays, S-nday's and national holidays.
We have received requests from three after-hours clubs: Kit Kat, Pump and The Mix, for special
events permits to operate on additional days during the Winter Music Conference 2000. In
discussion with Planning and Legal, it was agreed that the allowance of additional days under
special circumstances was anticipated at the point of regulation of the after hours clubs. The Special
Events Permit Guidelines allow for an event not normally allowed under existing regulations or a
business license, a maximum of 5 days per calendar year with no more than 4 consecutive days.
The Special Events Permit will permit limited operation outside the normal days and hours of
operation. The Special Events Division will notify the surrounding neighborhood associations and
neighboring businesses. Notification and discussions with city departments, will insure adherence
to the guidelines.
