STATE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Attached is an update on the State Legislative and funding status of many of the City of Miami
Beach's Priorities for FY 2000. Full funding is recommended for Fire Station II and the Colony
Theater and will require the City's diligent persistence with the State Legislative and Governor to
retain the full funding recommendation. Any assistance you can provide or comments you have are
greatly appreciated.

Update as of April 20, 2000
As of this date, the budget conference committe~5 have
complet~d their work. Several issues are still outstanding and
they have "bumped up" these issues to the Appropriations Chairmen
in the House and Senate. The following reflects the status of
the funding priorities for the City.
1. Fire Station Hist~~~c ~r~sery~~ion Grant--S210~QO~
The historic preservation grant wa~ complecely funded and
the fire station is covered.
2. QRlony The~ter Cultural Facilitie~ Gr~
The entire list of cultural facility grants was covered and
the Colony Theater will receive the full $500,000.
3. East 1r.ack
As you know from our last report, the Fast Track was in ~he
Senate budget for $450,000 and not in the House budget. It has
been bumped up to leadership. The lobbying ~eam has worked
ex~remely hard on this issue with numerous legislators. We will
continue to work through the process on this issue. Department

of Transportation Secretary Barry has been actively lobbying
against placement of this issue in the budget.
4. Eeacn Res~nration
The statewide appropriation is $30.34 million which will
provide $28~/000 for the City's beach project.
5. FRDAP GTants
The FRDAP gTants have been funded at $33.8 million. At this
funding level, the North Shore Park will receive $150,000. They
reduced the cap on each project from $200,000 to $150,000. This
may change again before the final budget is complete.
6, Libr~ Constru9tion Grants
The library construction grants were funded at $4.5 million
for all 15 projects at $300,000 each. The City will be receiving
$300,000 for library construction.
During the upcoming last two weeks of Session, most of the
legislative issues are in flux and we will report on these a~ the
end of Session, after May 5, 2000.
