The purpose of this LTC is to inform you that Major David Allen has retired after 25 years of
dedicated service to the City of Miami Beach.
David Allen's departure is due to his selection as the Chief of Police for the Town of
Surfside. As you are aware, David has been detached to the Surfside Police Department
as the Interim Chief since October 30, 2006. As a result of his exemplary performance and
outstanding professionalism during the time he has been there, the Surfside Town Manager,
along with the support of the Mayor and Town Commission, has recommended and
subsequently approved David to be their Chief of Police. This is the second time in the past
five years that a member of the Miami Beach Police Department command staff has been
chosen to head a local police agency.
Please join me, along with all the men and women of the Miami Beach Police Department, in
wishing Chief Allen a fond farewell and the best of luck in this new role in our neighboring
community.
