MIAMI BEACH-Spurred on by the success of the current season's duo of musical hits,
CABARET and FOSSE, the Miami Beach Broadway Series is taking its cue from the
response of its audiences by scheduling a provocative mix of musicals. Opening the
season is the family-friendly production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's CINDERELLA,
followed by the original song and dance extravaganza of GUMBOOTS. The musical
majesty and sensational costumes of Barry Manilow's COPACABANA and the
energetic dynamic of Broadway's ongoing dance marathon SWING! are also part of the
exciting line-up of shows that highlight the 2000-2001 subscription season presented by
the Florida Theatrical Association at the Jackie Gleason Theater, 1700 Washington Ave.

For those who treasure the acid humor ofthe hilariously non-politically correct Jackie
Mason, the diminutive comic will be bringing his current Broadway hit, MUCH ADO
ABOUT EVERYTHING, for a four-performance run, February 22-25 as a non-
subscription "special".
Kicking off the season, December 5-10, as a pre-holiday treat will be Richard Rodgers
and Oscar Hammerstein II's CINDERELLA, the only musical written by the composer
and lyricist for television. Aired live 43 years ago in March 1957, the original CBS-TV
"
show starring Julie Andrews wrapped up 107 million viewers, the largest television
audience to that date.
The show was re-staged in 1965 with Lesley Ann Warren in the title role, and was
broadcast eight more times between 1965 through 1974. Taped for broadcast, as opposed
to live as the 1957 version had been, the show successfully brought the magical tale to
life for another generation.
Armed with a spectacular cast of characters and an unforgettable score that brings the
audience the timeless songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein, the show is a treat for the
entire family. CINDERELLA is scheduled for a spring return to Fort Lauderdale's
Broward Center for the Performing Arts, April 17-29. Casting for the Florida production
wili be announced.
GUMBOOTS, direct from London's West End, will have its Florida premiere at the
Jackie Gleason Theater, January 16-21, then move on to Fort Lauderdale's Parker
Playhouse, January 30-February 18, and Palm Beach's Royal Poinciana Playhouse,
February 20-March 4.

4-2000-2001 Miami Beach.Broadway Series
The show The London Evening Standard called, "A spectacular, raucous evening of song
and dance," GUMBOOTS features twelve cast members-dancers, musicians and
vocalists all joined by the spirited art form that grew out of adversity. Directed by Zenzi
Mbuli, the show features choreography by Wendy La Harpe. The set design is attributed
to designer Nigel Triffitt.
Currently in its fourth month at New York's St. James Theater, SWING!, which will
play exclusively in Miami Beach March 21-25, is the all-singing, all-dancing exhilarating

entertainment spectacle dedicated to the music and dance phenomenon that started in
Harlem in the 1930s, took the world through its World War II years, then re-emerged as
one of today' s most energetic arenas of song and dance.
Directed and choreographed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett whose credits include the film
"Footloose", Broadway's TITANIC and CHESS, and ballets for the American Ballet
Theater and the New York City Ballet, SWING! is it non-stop, breathtaking revue of
high-octane energy and action.
Featuring a cast of20 singers and dancers backed by a big band that belts out classic
tunes, SWING! is a full-scale Broadway production whose exuberance in dance is
matched by the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and the scores of
great composers, lyricists and singers who peopled that extraordinary swing era.
Scheduled for April 10-15, BARRY MANILOW'S COPACABANA will introduce to
South Florida's audiences the show that sold out for 18 months in London's West End
and a two-year tour through the United Kingdom.

Coming from the creative team of Manilow, Bruce Sussman and Jack Feldman, the lavish
show is directed by David Warren (JEKYLL and HYDE), with choreography by Wayne
Cilento, who scored a Tony Award@ for THE WHO'S TOMMY and is currently
represented on Broadway by AIDA. COPACABANA was inspired by Manilow's
Grarnmy Award-winning song "Copacabana" whose opening line, "Her name was Lola",
launched the record-breaking hit throughout the world.

As a musical from the undisputed #1 adult contemporary artist of all time who triumphed
in every facet of music, including performing, composing, arranging and producing,
Manilow's COP ACABANA tells its glamorous tale of old-fashioned love, jealousy and
murder in the entangled lives of Lola, Tony, and Rico. The story is set against a backdrop
of dazzling costumes, spectacular sets, and a Latin-themed score from which will come
"Ay Caramba," "Lola," "Who Needs a Dream?," "Sweet Heaven," and the title song.
