SUBJECT: Arbor Day April 21, 2007
I am pleased to inform you that in accordance with the guidelines set forth by The National
Arbor Day Foundation, and in fulfillment of one of the requirements for attaining the Tree City
USA designation, Mayor David Dermer has proclaimed Saturday, April 21, 2007 as Arbor
Day in Miami Beach.
To celebrate, The City of Miami Beach, Parks and Recreation's, Greenspace Management
Division, will host a cleanup and tree planting event where volunteers will plant more than
twenty trees and participate in a beach cleanup from 9 AM to 12 noon at Marjorie Stoneman
Douglas Park at Ocean Drive and 3~d Street. This event will also celebrate Earth Day, and
is being coordinated with the Environmental Coalition of Miami Beach (ECOMB) which, with
assistance from the Chamber Pillars and the Woman's Club from Florida International
University, has been recruiting volunteers. The Parks and Recreation Department is
providing the trees, tools, and technical support.
