ASBESTOS REPORT ON THE SOUTH SHORE (6th) STREET COMMUNITY
CENTER

In connection with the G,O, Bond project, the City procured an asbestos survey report of the South
Shore (6th) Street Community Center. The report indicates that some immediate remediation actions
must be effectuated that will require removal and reconstruction of certain areas and a temporary
closure of the facility.
The Administration has identified alternative City facilities to relocate each user/program services
being provided at the center. Each user is being notified and relocation alternatives are being defined
to accomodate their needs during this temporary closure. Staff is also meeting with contractors on-
site on Saturday, August 19, 2000, to obtain bids and construction timeframes to expedite the
necessary corrective action, We anticipate that such closure will not exceed 2 weeks,
