RESOLUTION NO. 2007-26523
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA REQUESTING MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
MAYOR CARLOS ALVAREZ, THE MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY COMMISSION, AND THE DIRECTOR OF
MIAMI-DADE TRANSIT TO LOOK INTO EXPANDING
THE SOUTH BEACH LOCAL BUS ROUTE TO INCLUDE
STOPS WITHIN THE COLLINS PARK AREA
INCLUDING A STOP AT THE MIAMI BEACH
REGIONAL LIBRARY.
WHEREAS, the South Beach Local provides transportation services from locations
between South Pointe Drive and 20th Street via routes which include various stops along
Washington Avenue, Alton Road, West Avenue, and other major thoroughfares in South Beach;
and
WHEREAS, excluded from the South Beach Local route are stops in the newly
revitalized Collins Park area, which includes the Miami Beach Regional Library, the Bass
Museum, and the Miami City Ballet; and
WHEREAS, there is increased activity and interest in the Collins Park area amongst the
residents as well as visitors to the City of Miami Beach, thereby creating a demand for expanded
transportation service to this area of South Beach; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission deem it in the best interest of the City of
Miami Beach that the South Beach Local route be expanded to include stops within the Collins
Park area, and specifically at the new Miami Beach Regional Library, and hereby request Miami-
Dade County to look into expanding the South Beach Local route accordingly.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that Miami-Dade County
Mayor Carlos Alvarez, the Miami-Dade County Commission, and the Director of Miami-Dade
Transit are hereby requested to look into expanding the South Beach Local route to include stops
within the Collins Park area, inclusive of a stop at the Miami Beach Regional Library.
