RESOLUTION NO. 96-22231
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO
SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, NATIONAL
CENTER FOR PRESERVATION TECHNOLOGY AND TRAINING, 1997
PRESERVATION TECHNOLOGY AND TRAINING GRANTS IN THE AMOUNT OF
$40,000; AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE GRANT, IF AWARDED; AND
APPROPRIATING THE FUNDS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE TERMS OF THE
GRANT.
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, National Cenjer for
Preservation Technology and Training, is accepting applications for Preservation Technolog( end
Training Grants; and
WHEREAS, these grants are the Center's chief means of advancing the practice of preserlat on
and conservation and supporting the work of the nation's preservation and conservation communi~l; c nd
WHEREAS, through the program, the Center supports work in archeology, historic archite::tL "e,
historic landscapes, objects and materials conservation, and interpretation; and
WHEREAS, grant applications are due December 20, 1996; and
WHEREAS, the City's Development, Design, and Historic Preservation Services Departml!nt
has identified a need to develop a new preservation regulatory tracking and database system to :;to'e,
cross reference, and track all development applications and properties within the City's historic distric ts;
and
WHEREAS, the program has an estimated cost of $58,000, and of this amount, t,e
Administration wishes to apply to the NCPTT for assistance in the amount of $40,000; and
WHEREAS, the remaining $18,000 would represent the City's in-kind matching contribution, in
the form of existing salaries and services and no new allocation of general fund monies from the C ty
are anticipated to be used for this proposed project.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF n E
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission authorize the City Man:lgl:!r,
or his designee, to submit an application to the National Park Service, National Center for Preservatinn
Technology and Training, 1997 Preservation Technology and Training Grants in the amount of $40,OCO;
authorizing the acceptance of the grant, if awarded; and appropriating the funds in compliance wit, tl;le

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the Resolution.
BACKGROUND:
The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, National Center for Preservati::m
Technology and Training (NCPTT), is accepting applications for Preservation Technology and
Training Grants. The Preservation Technology and Training grants represent the chief means of
the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training for advancing the practice of
preservation and conservation and supporting the work of the nation's preservation a 1d
conservation community. Through the program, the Center supports work in archeology, historic
architecture, historic landscapes, objects and materials conservation, and interpretation. Grants
are awarded competitively.
Proposals are reviewed first by NCPTT staff, second by peer reviewers, then by an interdisciplinctry
panel of experts convened by NCPTT, and finally, by NCPTT, for geographical, institutional, a ld
disciplinary distribution. NCPTT's recommendations for awards are then reviewed by a National
Park Service grants administrator for financial and policy matters. Final award is by the Direc10r
of the National Park Service. Grant applications are due December 20, 1996.
