Superhero At Muss Park- On July 20~', 2007, summer camp participants were invited to
enjoy an afternoon filled with fun and adventure. Campers, ages 5-8 years old, put on their
favorite superhero costume and played a variety of games including "Defuse the Bomb",
"Tower Leap", "Super Bowl" and "Save the Citizens."
It's Afterschoo/Registration Time- Parks & Recreation Department has more in store for
the upcoming school year for children in grades K-12, and begun accepting after school
registration on August 6, 2007. Registered after school members will have the opportunity to
participate in an assortment of sports, games, special events, and take advantage of onsite
activities. FREE after school transportation will be provided for members that attend
Biscayne Elementary, Treasure Island Elementary, South Pointe Elementary, Fienberg
Fisher Elementary, North Beach Elementary, Nautilus Middle School and Miami Beach
Senior High.
Save the Drama for the Ice-The Scott Rakow Youth Center Ice Rink is currently taking
registration for their "Save the Drama for the Ice" program, which offers experienced skaters
the chance to enhance their creativity and performance quality. The ice skating clinic will
take place from July 24th, 2007 -September 25~', 2007, every Tuesday from 5:OOpm - 5:50
pm. This new program is geared towards skaters who are looking for that "extra something"
that sets them apart from the rest, and is ideal for those skaters who are currently
competing.
That's So 70's-Friday, August 3`d 2007, the North Shore Park Youth Center traveled back
in time to the great 70's, dedicating performances and styles to the decade. North Shore
Park's auditorium was renovated into a contemporary "Saturday Night Fever" disco hall.
Groups from the North Shore Park Youth Center's summer camp performed to tunes from
the likes of Gloria Gaynor to the famous Village People. The primer girls group stole the
show with an unforgettable performance to "I will Survive" wowing the crowd with stage
presence and unique costumes capturing the image and feeling of the 70's.
Back 2 School Rally- On Friday August 10~'~ over 1,100 toddlers, children and adults
enjoyed the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation's, Back 2 School Rally, held at
Flamingo Park. The carnival style event was put together for the community to celebrate the
end of the summer and to get children excited about the upcoming school year.
Free entertainment, arts and crafts and rides were provided and carnival style games and
food concessions were available for purchase. The Miami Beach Police Athletic League
(PAL) partnered with the City to host the event while giving away 300 free book bags with
school supplies to the community.
Summer Blow Out- North Shore Park and Youth Center celebrated the end of the summer
with a "Blow Out" on Friday, August 17th, 2007. Tickets for rides and concessions were sold,
and the Hip-Hop Workshop kept everyone's feet moving to the dance beats. Performances
by North Shore Park's summer camp participants were a big hit!
