96-21946 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 96-21946 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF STATE, ARTS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,000; AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE GRANT, IF AWARDED; AND APPROPRIATION OF THE FUNDS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE TERMS OF THE GRANT. WHEREAS, the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, Arts In Education Program, provides grants to units of state, county or city governments, non-profit organizations, political subdivisions, public and private school boards, and educational institutions in amounts up to $15,000; and WHEREAS, the Arts In Education Program seeks to make life-long learning and quality educational opportunities in the visual, performing and literary arts available to Florida's citizens and visitors; and WHEREAS, the Bureau of Children's Affairs has designed such a program, for the benefit of children in the City of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, the program has a total projected annual cost of approximately $145,720 and of this amount, the Bureau has secured commitments from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice in the amount of $58,975, and Dade County Public Schools in the amount of $45,809; and WHEREAS, the Administration wishes to apply to the Florida Department of State for assistance in the amount of $15,000. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission authorize the City Manager to submit an application to the Florida Department of State, Arts In Education Program, in the amount of $15,000, authorizing the acceptance of the grant, if awarded, and disbursement of the funds, in compliance with the terms of the grant.
