SUBJECT: Summary of Vehicles Purchased Annually by Fleet Management
Each fiscal year, Fleet Management budgets for the replacement of vehicles/equipment, which are
in the General Fund and have met the criteria for replacement. The criteria, for replacement, is age,
mileage, cost of maintenance and overall condition. Vehicles/equipment, which are additions to the
fleet, and in the General Fund, are initially budgeted by the using department and depreciated and
replaced by Fleet Management. Departments and divisions in the Enterprise and Internal Service
funds budget annually for the purchase of additions and replacement vehicles/equipment, based on
recommendation by Fleet Management and the department heads,
Vehicles/equipment being replaced are used as a trade-in or auctioned, in accordance to the City of
Miami Beach policy, The proceeds of the auction are returned to the department or fund that made
the initial purchase,
The last five years the Police Department has purchased new vehicles, which are additions to the
fleet, using Police Confiscation Trust Funds to comply with the intent and provisions of the labor
agreement between the City and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), dated October 1,1994, The
FOP labor agreement sets goals for the program and outlines the funding mechanism for the purchase
of vehicles, The funds for the purchases were accumulated via the Police Department Confiscation
Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF),
Vehicles and equipment are defined as any ro\1ing stock which includes cars, trucks, boats, outboard
motors, motorcycles, jet skis, generators, trailers, etc, Attached is a summary of all
vehicles/equipment, by class code, currently in the fleet.
