SUBJECT: 2000 ANNUAL FLORIDA lIEDEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION AWARDS
PROGRAM
As advised in the Letter to Commission #159-2000, the City submitted two applications to the
Florida Redevelopment Association Awards Program. This awards program recognizes the
outstanding examples of revitalizafion and leadership in Florida.
On October 20, 2000, the City of Miami Beach was recognized and rewarded for its efforts in
revitalization at the 10th Annual Florida Redevelopment Association (FRA) and Florida Main Street
(FMS) Conference luncheon in Sarasota, Florida. Katherine Harris, Secretary of State, was the guest
speaker. The City won the Roy F. Kenzie Award of Excellence for both submissions. The Loews
Miami Beach Public/Private Partnership won for the category of "Management Programs and
Creative Partnerships," and the St. Moritz Hotel Renovation won for the category of "Outstanding
Rehabilitation, Renovation or Reuse Building Project."
Founded in 1974, the FRA brings together professionals from around the state who are involved in
preserving and improving Florida's communities. Initially formed to promote the redevelopmerit and
growth of downtowns. The FRA includes economic development agencies, non-profit organizations,
consultants, private developers and cities. The organization's goal is a comprehensive association
of all players in Florida' s urban revitalizafion work.
Kevin Crowder and Elyse Sitomer of the City's Economic Development Division attended the
conference and represented the City at the luncheon.
