SUBJECT: Miami Beach receives American Planning Association Award for Excellence for
an Outstanding Strategic Planning Project or Study
This Letter to Commission (LTC) is intended to advise you that the City's Strategic Planning
Process received the Award for Excellence for an Outstanding Strategic Planning Projector
Study from the American Planning Association Gold Coast Section. The award was
presented to the City at the American Planning Association's Annual Holiday Luncheon on
December 14, 2007.
This award recognizes organizations and projects based on how they promote a significant
advancement to the cause of quality planning practices, how they present a visionary
approach or innovative concept relative to the community and environment, how they
demonstrated an improved quality of life for community residents, and how the
implementation of the project made specific improvements in the locality or region.
The implementation of a formal Strategic Planning process has had a positive influence on
public awareness of quality planning practices as it shows the community how the City is
effectively using resources to address their main concerns and improve their quality of life.
The results of both community satisfaction surveys reflect our progress, and the City of
Miami Beach as a whole has seen great improvement as a result.
Please join me in recognizing the contributions each and every City of Miami Beach
employee makes to making Miami Beach a better place to live, work and play.
