MAY 6, 2008 NPIC NER' HOURS OF OPERATION NATIONAL PASSPORT INFORMATION CENTER NEW HOURS OF OPERATION EFFECTIVE MAY 11, 2008 As a result of our elcellent passport processing times, and current passport demand projections, the National Passport Information Center (NPIC) is changing its hours of operation. NPIC's new hours of operation ~~~ill be Monda~~ through Frida~~, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. be~innin~ Ma~~ 11, ?008. Customer Service Representatives will no longer be available on Saturday and Sunda~~~ Despite the reduction of hours, NPIC will continue to provide a high standard of service to our customers and assist passport calls with little or no wait time. NPIC ~~-i11 also continue to provide automated passport information service 24 hours a day, 7 days a wee!.. Through H this service, customers can obtain answers to general passport questions and may make appointments to be seen at one of ot~r passport agencies if they are traveling within two weeks. Much of the information available from NPIC may also be obtained from the Department's website at travel.state.~ov. M M a MAY 6, 2008 CHECK REMINllER NA1IE ANll DATE OF BIRTH OF APPLICANT PASSPORT CUSTOMERS MUST WRITE NAME AND DATE OF BIRTH ON CHECK Passport Acceptance Agents must ensure the check being submitted with the passport application lists the name and date of birth of the passport customer. This is especially important if the check covers more than one application. In order to be acceptable, checks or drafts must also: Be recently dated and made payable to the "U. S. Department of State" Have a numerical figure and written amount that agree Be completed and signed in ink Be payable in U. U. S. Postal Service and non-U. S. Postal Ser<~ce Passport Application Acceptance Facilities are strongly urged to use ONLY traceable U. S. Postal Sen%ice mail services to send passport applications to the Lockbox address. This is also a reminder that Facilities may no longer use FedEx or non-USPS setti7ces to send applications to the Lockbox address. Using mail services that indicate a tracking number and/or receipt of the applications at Lockbox ~~zll lessen the possibilit}% of "lost" passport applications. Without a tracking number, it is nearly impossible for us to track passport applications once they leave youur Facility. Lost applications mean ut~llappy customers. Acceptance Facilities must use two separate addresses for mailing routine and expedited applications beginning on Ma~~ 1, 2008.
