A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PROCLAIMING APRIL 16,2001 THROUGH
APRIL 22, 2001, "NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK" IN
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program has operated since
1975 to provide local governments with the resources required to meet the needs of persons of low and
moderate-income and CDBG funds are used throughout the nation to address pressing neighborhood and
human service needs; and
WHEREAS, the CDBG program has had a significant impact on the City of Miami Beach's
local economy through job creation and retention, physical redevelopment and improved local tax bases,
with funds used for capital improvements, social services, economic development, commercial
revitalization, and residential rehabilitation and preservation programs; and
WHEREAS, the week of April 16, 2001 through April 22, 2001 has been designated as
"National Community Development Week"; and
WHEREAS, in the City of Miami Beach, CDBG funding has developed a strong collaborative
network of relationships between local government, residents, and the many nonprofit agencies that
provide services and help make possible the City's commitment to its neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach recognizes that the CDBG program is a partnership of
federal, local government, nonprofit and community efforts, and that the services funded by the federal
CDBG program administered by the City of Miami Beach, and delivered by local sub-recipient
organizations, rely heavily on the dedication and good will of our combined efforts; and
WHEREAS, during National Community Development Week 200 I, the City of Miami Beach
will give special thanks and recognition to all participants whose hard work and devotion to the
neighborhood and their low and moderate-income residents help insure the quality and effectiveness of
the Community Development Block Grant program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that The Mayor And City Commission proclaim
April 16,2001 Through April 22, 2001, "National Community Development Week" In The City Of
Miami Beach.

ANALYSIS
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program has operated since 1975 to provide local
governments with the resources required to meet the needs of persons of low and moderate-income and
CDBG funds are used throughout the nation to address pressing neighborhood and human service needs. The
CDBG program has had a significant impact on the City of Miami Beach's local economy through job

rehabilitation and preservation programs. In the City of Miami Beach, CDBG funding has developed a strong

that provide services and help make possible the City's commitment to its neighborhoods.
The week of April 16, 2001 through April 22, 2001 has been designated as "National Community
Development Week". The City of Miami Beach recognizes that the CDBG program is a partnership of

organizations, rely heavily on the dedication and good will of our combined efforts.
During National Community Development Week 2001, the City of Miami Beach will give special thanks
and recognition to all participants whose hard work and devotion to the neighborhood and their low and
moderate-income residents help insure the quality and effectiveness of the Community Development Block
Grant program; and the City of Miami Beach, along with the service providers, hereby petition the U.S.
Congress and the Administration to recognize the outstanding work being done locally and nationally by the
Community Development Block Grant program, and its vital importance to the community and to the people
who live in its residential target areas, and that the City of Miami Beach's name be added to the roll of those
committed to the preservation and full funding of the CDBG program and maintenance of its essential
features over the course of the next session of Congress.
