2008-26816 ResoRESOLUTION NO. 2008-26816 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI M OF THE NORTH SHOREOYOUTH CENTERIAFTER THE AUDITORIU JOE AND FLORA FONTANA. WHEREAS, a request to rename the North Shore Park Youth Center in memory of Mr. Joe Fontana and his wife, Flora, was held at the Neighborhoods/ Community Affairs meeting on October 30, 2007; and WHEREAS, the discussion focused on the question of whether to name the entire building, or an interior portion thereof, after Mr. and Mrs. Fontana; and WHEREAS, the Committee ultimately moved to recommend the renaming of the North Shore Youth Center after Joe and Flora Fontana, but also maintained the option to name an interior portion of the facility; and WHEREAS, as the aforestated item was initially brought to the Committee so close to the election of the new Mayor and three (3) City Commission seats, it was referred back to the Committee to be heard again, following the elections; and WHEREAS, additional discussion concerning the aforestated naming proposal was held at the Neighborhoods/Community Affairs Committee meetings on February 27, 2008, and March 26, 2008; and WHEREAS, at its meeting on March 26, 2008, the Committee recommended naming an interior portion of the North Shore Youth Center in memory of Joe and Flora Fontana; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 82-503 of the City Code, the Mayor and City Commission, at its April 16, 2008 meeting, called for a duly noticed public hearing for May 14, 2008, to obtain citizen input and consider the naming of an interior portion, as requested; and WHEREAS, the Administration would further recommend that the Mayor and City Commission name the Auditorium after the Fontana's; and WHEREAS, accordingly, following said public hearing, the Mayor and City Commission hereby approve the naming of an interior portion (namely, the Auditorium) of the North Shore Youth Center after Joe and Flora Fontana. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, following a duly noticed public hearing, hereby approve the naming of the Auditorium of the North Shore Youth Center after Joe and Flora Fontana. The Committee moved to recommend the renaming of the North Shore Youth Center after Joe and Flora Fontana and to discuss the option of naming an interior portion of the facility. However, as this item was so closely timed with the election of the new Mayor and Commission members this item was referred back to the committee for reconsideration and direction prior to proceeding. Two additional discussions concerning the renaming of the North Shore Youth Center or an interior portion of it were held at the Neighborhoods/Community Affairs Committee on February 27, 2008 and March 26, 2008.
