A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA OPPOSING
THE DADE COUNTY PROPOSAL TO PLACE AN ITEM ON
THE NOVEMBER, 1996 BALLOT AMENDING THE DADE
COUNTY CHARTER TO LEVY AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 3
MILLS OF TAXATION ON ALL PROPERTIES WITHIN
DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA WITH THE ADDITIONAL
FUNDS TO BE DEPOSITED INTO A COMMON POOL FOR
DISTRIBUTION ON A PER CAPITA BASIS.
WHEREAS, a proposal is pending before the Dade County Commission to place an item
on the November, 1996 ballot amending the Dade County Charter to authorize the levy of an
additional 1 to 3 mills of taxation on all properties within Dade County, Florida, with the additional
funds to be deposited into a common pool for distribution on a per capita basis; and
WHEREAS, an additional mill of tax upon the property owners in the City of Miami Beach
would result in the contribution of approximately $5.5 million dollars into the common pool to be
established by the proposed ballot amendment; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that the City of Miami Beach would only receive a return of
approximately $3.5 million dollars as a result of the imposition of the additional tax.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the City of Miami Beach
hereby opposes the Dade County proposal to amend the Dade County Charter to levy an additional
1 to 3 mills of property taxes on all properties within Dade County, Florida. And be it further
resolved that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Dade County League of Cities.
