Morales, City Manager DATE: February 6, 2017 SUBJECT: PARKS & RECREATIONAL FACILI ES ADVISORY BOARD MOTIONS The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform the Mayor and Commission of four motions passed by the Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board at its meeting of February 1, 2017: MOTION 1: The Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board is delighted that the City Commission has allocated $200,000 toward the renovation of Muscle Beach within Lummus Park. The Board has looked at the design presented and recommends that we see other designs which also have an artistic and functional flare and perhaps include additional fitness equipment beyond what we see in this proposal. Of the list provided, we, the Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board, support our prioritization of the following capital project City staff requests: High Priority North Beach Parks Restroom Restoration Mid Beach Parks Restroom Restoration South Beach Parks Restroom Restoration Normandy Isle Park & Pool — Plumbing, Pool Leak Repairs, Pool Deck Replacement and Pool Furniture Replacement Flamingo Park — Football Field Perimeter Fence Replacement Scott Rakow Youth Center — Outdoor Patio Flooring Installation Scott Rakow Youth Center — Pool Restroom Renovations, Pool Desk Resurfacing and Pool Fencing Replacement North Shore Park. Parks Lighting (Flamingo Park and Washington Dog Park) Normandy Shores Golf Club — Purchase of a Verti-Drain Aerifier The Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board believe the following FY 18 Capital Project Requests should be requested through the Emergency Management Department: Scott Rakow Youth Center — Generator Scott Rakow Youth Center — Replacement of Impact Windows & Doors Citywide Parks Security Surveillance Camera Upgrade The Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board also supports the funding for Capital Projects that are underfunded such as Maurice Gibb Park Redevelopment and the Future Community Park (Former Par 3). In regards to the funding of the Future Community Park (Former Par 3), the board believes it would be more cost and time effective if the project is funded and constructed in phases, beginning with the soil remediation and tennis courts. The Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board also supports future projects in the following prioritization: High Priority - Spectator Seating on the Tennis Building Rooftop of North Shore Park - Kayak Launches City-wide as part of the Blueways Masterplan Low Priority - Lummus Park Master Plan and Redevelopment The board also likes the idea of the following projects, but would like to see prices before prioritizing: a pocket park on Alton and 20th Street, Batting Cages on the rooftop of North Shore Park Youth Center or Scott Rakow Youth Center, a Soccer field on the rooftop of North Shore Park Youth Center.
