SUBJECT: Miami Beach Convention Cent Renovation & Expansion
Large Deliveries the Week of January 30, 2017
The purpose of this LTC is to advise the Mayor and City Commission that there will be five
(5) large deliveries, one per day, to the Convention Center site at approximately 11:00 a.m.
starting next Monday, January 30th, through next Friday, February 3rd.
The delivery consists of 5 new cooling towers which will be placed in their permanent
location via crane. Due to the large size of the equipment, the towers will be delivered via a
two truck convoy, 12 foot by 78 foot long each. These trucks are wider than City streets, so
the delivery requires a daily police escort which has been fully coordinated with the Miami
Beach Police Department. The motor unit will cover the escort in its entirety within the City
limits.
The route is: 1-95 to 195 (Julia Tuttle Causeway) to Alton Road to Michigan Avenue to Dade
Blvd to Meridian Avenue to 19th Street. This route has been previously used by the
contractor for large trusses and other large deliveries.
The delivery requires a City permit which is being issued by the City of Miami Beach Public
Works Department, however no City streets will be closed. The carriers, Admiral Merchants
and Ohio Transport, will also provide copy of the State permit and insurance per City permit
requirements. The delivery cannot be done at night due to required curfews dictated by the
State of Florida Department of Transportation permit.
In addition to the traffic coordination effort, the project's Public Information Officer will be
sending out alerts via all of the City's social media outlets.
