SUBJECT: Miami Beach Convention Center Renovation & Expansion
Convention Center Drive Full Road Closure (starting January 16,
2017)
The purpose of this LTC is to advise the Mayor and City Commission of the additional
closure of Convention Center Drive, between 17th and 18th Streets.
Background
On December 12, 2016 the City's contractor, Clark Construction, began Phase 2 of the
Convention Center Project which includes major underground utility installations along
Convention Center Drive from Dade Boulevard to 17th Street. This work is already underway
and will continue south towards 17th Street starting Monday, January 16.
Due to the extensive volume of work this full road closure is expected to last up to the
turnover of the building for Art Basel 2017, however the entrance to the City Hall parking
garage and City Hall loading dock will be maintained at all times. (refer to Exhibit A)
Temporary Impacts and Alternatives
During this Phase of the work, the following issues will be addressed:
• Access to City Hall parking garage will be temporarily restricted to Meridian Avenue.
• Existing parking spaces along Convention Center Drive:
o Six (6) disabled parking spaces will temporarily be unavailable.
Alternative: Additional disabled spaces are located at each level of the City Hall
parking garage.
o Twelve (12) one hour parking spaces will temporarily be unavailable.
Alternative: Metered spaces are located on the ground floor level of the garage.
o City Manager and City Attorney's parking spaces will temporarily be unavailable.
Alternative: City Manager and City Attorney spaces are located at the third level of
the garage.
o Motorcycle spaces will be temporarily unavailable.
Alternative: One (1) space is located at the first level of the garage. Additional
spaces will be accommodated in the surface parking lot behind the Fillmore Theater.
• Citibikes Station: Will be temporarily relocated within the vicinity of City Hall.

• Parking lot behind the Fillmore Theater: Access will be maintained through the 17th
Street entrance. Pedestrians will be directed to the crosswalk at the corner of 17th Street
and Convention Center Drive.
• Fillmore loading dock access: Will be permitted through the existing parking lot entrance
at 17th Street.
• Miami-Dade County buses: Will be temporarily re-routed to Dade Boulevard &
Washington Avenue.
• Sidewalk around the perimeter of City Hall will remain accessible.
The street closure has been coordinated with the City's Communications, Parking,
Transportation, and Public Works Departments, as well as Live Nation (Fillmore)
management and Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation & Public Works.
Conclusion
City staff will continue to keep you informed as work progresses or if there are any required
changes to the phasing plan in the future. In addition, the project's Public Information officer
issues traffic alerts and information to the public on a weekly basis through the City's social
media outlets including Twitter, Facebook, and Constant Contact.
