Subject: South Pointe Crosswalks at Oceal Drive a d 5th Street
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform the Mayor and City Commission
that the installation of brick paver crosswalks at the intersection of 5th Street and Ocean Drive is
scheduled to begin on January 30, 2017.
Crosswalk installation at this location will provide for safer pedestrian crossing and enhanced
aesthetics. The installation will take approximately four (4) to six (6) weeks and is expected to
be complete in March 2017.
Construction activities will commence with the installation of the approved Maintenance of
Traffic (MOT) plan which includes lane closures for portions of intersection and off-duty police
officers to assist with vehicular traffic as needed. To minimize lane closures, the intersection will
be completed in three (3) phases. Extended work hours and/or weekend work may be
• requested as necessary to ensure the intersection is safe.
A Construction Advisory is being issued and the stakeholders will be informed of the detours
and alternate routes.
