SUBJECT: UPCOMING PARKS AND RECRATION APRIL 2017 EVENTS
Join the Parks and Recreation team as we ring in spring and celebrate National Autism
Awareness Month!
Event: Summer Camp Registration Opens to Miami Beach Residents
Date: April 3rd at 8:30 a.m.: General Summer Camp for Miami Beach residents
April 23rd at 10:00 a.m.: Specialty Summer Camp for Miami Beach Residents
Non-residents may register for all camps starting May 1st at 8:30 a.m.
Accounts must be current to register. Campers registering for General Summer Camp could
receive a $65 discount for making a one-time payment of $575 by June 2nd. Regular price for
General Summer Camp is $640. All registrations and payments will be handled through
Capturepoint, our online registration and payment system. For more information, please visit

Event: Play Time & After-school Light it up Blue Autism Awareness Activity
Date: Thursday, April 6th & *Friday, April 7th (*North Shore Park After-school only)
Time: 9:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m. (Play Time) & 3:00 p.m. — 6:00 p.m. (After-school)
Locations: South Pointe Park (1 Washington Ave), Scott Rakow Youth Center (2700
Sheridan Ave), Nautilus Middle School Teen Club (4301 N Michigan Ave),
Flamingo Park (999 11th St), and North Shore Park Youth Center (501 72nd St)
Participants from all Play Time and After-school programs will take part in an arts & crafts
fundraiser for Autism Awareness Month. Children will decorate puzzle pieces to demonstrate
how Autism has touched their lives. All proceeds will benefit the Autism Speaks Foundation.
Event: Spring Eggstravaganza
Date: Saturday, April 8th
Time: 10:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
Location: North Shore Park (501 72nd St)
Join MB Parks for an "egg-septional" time as we welcome the spring season! We will have
bonce houses, face painting, magic shows and more. Children 10 and under are invited to
participate in an egg hunt at 11:00 a.m. General admission is free, refreshments will be for sale.
Some activities have fees, cash only. See flyer for more details.
Event: Spring Break Surf Camp for Children with Autism
Date: Monday, April 10th — Friday, April 14th
Time: 8:00 a.m. — 2:00 p.m.
Location: South Pointe Park (1 Washington Ave)
Miami Beach Parks and Recreation is teaming up with the University of Miami — Nova
Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM -NSU CARD) to host the
10th annual spring break surf camp for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
Participating children will spend the week focusing on swimming skills, basic oceanography,
meteorology, open water surfing and most importantly, their own abilities. The surfing
component will be held on the beach adjacent to the park.
Event: Senior Spring Fling Party
Date: Friday, April 21St
Time: 12:00 p.m. — 3:00 p.m.
Location: UNIDAD Senior Center (7251 Collins Avenue)
Join us for food, fun and dance! Seniors registered with the Senior Program at UNIDAD and/or
North Shore Park are welcome to attend.
Event: Play Time & After-school Earth Day Activity
Date: Friday, April 21st
Time: 9:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m. (Play Time) & 3:00 p.m. — 6:00 p.m. (After-school)
Location: South Pointe Park (1 Washington Ave), Scott Rakow Youth Center (2700

All After-school and Play Time participants will participate in a clean-up around their parks/sites
in honor of Earth Day.
Event: The Big Serve Miami
Date: Friday, April 28th
Time: 4:00 p.m. — 6:30 p.m.
Location: Flamingo Park Tennis Center (1200 Meridian Ave)
The Miami Beach Tennis Foundation and City of Miami Beach, in collaboration with other
local foundations, are proud to host a free tennis clinic for underserved youth in Miami
communities. Guest celebrities and professional tour players will engage the youth in tennis
activities and games on court.

Event: Spring Fiesta
Date: Friday, May 5th
Time: 6:30 p.m. — 9:30 p.m.
Location: Scott Rakow Youth Center (2700 Sheridan Ave)
Join us for the annual parent & child dance. $10 covers the cost of admission for a parent &
child; admission for each additional child is $5. Tickets may be purchased at Flamingo Park,
Scott Rakow Youth Center or North Shore Park Youth Center, from April 3rd through April 28th.
