LTC# 169-2017 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Philip Levine and Members f the City Cor"Imission FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager DATE: March 30, 2017 SUBJECT: Ventilation Assisted Children's Ce ` er Camp (VACC Camp) 2017 This letter to the Mayor and. City Commission is to extend an Invitation to the VACC Camp 2017, which will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. behind Nikki Beach. The VACC Camp has been part of the South Florida area since 1986, when the first camp took place during the summer and operated in collaboration with SKIP of Florida. Currently, Dr. Moises Simpser, pulmonologist with the Division of Pulmonology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital has led the camp since its inception. The camp is a free, week-long overnight camp for children who need tracheostomy ventilators or oxygen to support breathing, which often can limit their activities because of their dependency on medical technology. The camp hosts approximately 150 children from age five and older and representing more than 20 states and countries. For many, the trip to the sea and sand is a first. For the past 15 years, members of the Fire Department and Ocean Rescue volunteer their time and efforts to provide easy wheelchair access by setting up temporary ramps leading from the shore to the ocean so the children can enjoy a day at the beach. The Fire Department cordially invites you to be part of another year of making dreams come true for these special children out on the beach. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. VF/YS-G
