PROSTITUTION DETAIL SUMMARY

This Letter to the City Commission is to provide further information on the Police
Department's fight against prostitution. Using personnel from the Strategic Investigations
Unit, Crime Suppression Team, RDA and Patrol officers, four intensive prostitution details
have been conducted thus far this year. The results are as follows.
1. February 28, 2004: 54 misdemeanor arrests and 4 felony arrests
· 34 of the arrests were for soliciting prostitution, the remainder were for
obstructing traffic for solicitation of prostitution and various crimes
· In addition, 4 known "pimps" were arrested.
2. March 17, 2004:26 arrests were made.
· Two of those were males charged with Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction.
· Eight (8) provided false names and were charged accordingly.
· Of the 24 females arrested, all but three had extensive prostitution priors.
3. April 17, 2004:15 arrests were made.
· Two of those were males charged with Prostitution.
4. May 9, 2004:32 arrests were made.
· Four (4) of those were males charged with Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction.
· Fifteen (15) provided false names and are being charged accordingly.
· Of the twenty eight (28) females arrested, all but thirteen (13) had extensive
prostitution priors.
To date, the four details have resulted in 127 prostitution related arrests. There are
currently 19 prostitutes in the Mapping Program. The Police Department will continue
its enforcement efforts and work closely with the State Attorney's Office and the court
system to have these cases prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The continued
cooperation of the judicial branch in raising the amount of bonds and imposing stiffer
penalties is crucial to the fight against prostitution in Miami Beach.
