Gonzalez, City Manager SATE: November 3, 2008 SUBJECT: Arts in the Parks Our third season of free "Arts in the Parks" performances began this past weekend with two highly successful offerings: on Saturday afternoon, a lively street theater group from Spain (courtesy of Centro Cultural Espanol) presented the musical comedy "EI Desahucio" ("The Eviction") on Lincoln Road, and on Sunday listeners of all ages enjoyed New York's Frank London and the Klezmer Brass All-Stars jamming with local Haitian musician Jan Sebon, his two vocalist daughters, a Brazilian samba group and an Argentinian singer to create a unique, only-in-South Florida musical experience in Flamingo Park. Over 200 people attended each show. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, January 9 - 10 - 11, 7 p.m., Flamingo Park, Meridian + 12th Street Shakespeare's MACBETH Produced by Shakespeare Miami Saturday, February 28, 4 p.m., North Shore Open Space Park, Collins + 81st Street RUMBA! The Afro-Cuban Music and Dance Experience Produced by FUNDarte Saturday, April 18, 7 p.m., North Shore Open Space Park, Collins + 81st Street Donizetti's ELIXIR OF LOVE [L'Elisir d'amore] with full cast and orchestra Produced by Miami Lyric Opera Saturday, May 30, 6 p.m., Flamingo Park, Meridian + 12th Street Animate Objects Physical Theater's ATLANTIS: a spectacular underwater journey with acrobatic aerialists and stilt walkers I am confident that these Arts in the Parks events will be a valuable contribution to the cultural life of our city, the enrichment of which is a vital part of our overall strategic plan.
