OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
NO. LTC # 335-2008 LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and Members of the City Commission
FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, City Manager
DATE: December 23, 2008
SUa~ECT: Delivery of Recycling Carts for Sing Stream Residential Recycling Program.
The purpose of this LTC is to update the Mayor and City Commission on the timeframe for delivery
of new 60 gallon recycling carts for the Single Stream Residential Recycling Program. Under this
program single-family residences and multi-family units (8 or less) that are serviced by the City will
no longer have to sort their recyclable material into separate bins. All recyclables will be placed into
a single 60 gallon cart.
Miami-Dade County (County) began to distribute the carts on Monday December 22, 2008. It is
expected that by the end of today all residents south of 11th Street including Palm, Hibiscus, Star,
Dilido, Rivo Alto, San Marino, Belle Isle, and Sunsets Isles 3 and 4 will have their carts.
The County will resume delivery of new carts on Sunday December 28, 2008 to residents north of
11th Street. The County has the capability of delivering approximately 1,000 carts perday; therefore,
the remainder of the carts should be delivered by Monday January 5, 2008. During the transitional
period that County has assured the City that there will be no interruptions in service.
