LETTER TO COMMISSION
June 19, 2001
TO: Mayor Neisen O. Kasdin and
Members of the City Commission
FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez 07L~
City Manager
SUBJECT: PUBLIC WORKS YARD/PROPERTY MANAGEMENT FACILITY
Over the past few days, several members of the Commission have requested updates on the Property
Management Facility, ~vhich is closely related to the Public Works Yard project.
On March 14, 2001, the City Commission passed Resolution No. 2001-24292 that authorized an
agreement with Bermello, Ajamil and Partners, Inc, (B&A) to develop a Master Plan that examines
the feasibility of co-locating the Public Works Yard and Property Management Facility.
The contract for the Public Works Yard Master Plan was approved by Legal the week of June 1 lth
and forwarded to Bermello and Ajamil (B &A) for their execution. We anticipate completion within
the next 60 days to 90 days. Further decisions concerning the Property Management Facility will
be addressed upon completion of the Master Plan.
Pursuant to discussion at the Fire Station No. 2 Oversight Committee meeting, staff contacted Camp
Dresser McKee, Inc. (CDM) to get a time-line on the design of the proposed water tank in the Public
Works Yard. CDM has performed some preliminary work on the tank. In the next two weeks, staff
will meet with B&A to examine the feasibility of moving forward with the water tank project at this
time.
The only other major issue is access to the Public Works Yard. If the City uses School Board
property for access to the Public Works Yard, the configuration of the layout will be enhanced
because of the flexibility of not having to go through Fire Station No. 2's yard and potential
construction site. Also, if the City gains access to the School Board's access road before construction
begins on Fire Station No. 2, the construction on Fire Station No. 2 can proceed independently of
the Public Works Yard.
If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to call Special Assistant Tim Hemstreet,
Assistant City Manager Bob Middaugh, or me.
