2001-24493 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 2001- 24493 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA URGING GOVERNOR JEB BUSH TO RESTORE FUNDING FOR THE MIAMI BEACH SENIOR CENTER. WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Senior Center has, for over twenty (20) years, ably provided services to over eight hundred (800) seniors annually which improve the quality of their lives while allowing them to live as independently as possible; and WHEREAS, one week ago, Governor Jeb Bush approved appropriation legislation for 2001- 2002 with a number of vetoes, including a veto of Line Item No. 487 for the Miami Beach Senior Center in the amount of$227,188; and WHEREAS, the amount of spending vetoed by Governor Jeb Bush amounts to over 50% of the total budget for the Miami Beach Senior Center and was the same level of funding that has been allocated to the Center for over twenty (20) years; and WHEREAS, the continued funding of the Miami Beach Senior Center, in the same amount which it has received for over twenty (20) years, is crucial to the Center's continued operation and provision of services to the senior citizen community in Miami Beach. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that Governor Jeb Bush is hereby urged to restore funding for the Miami Beach Senior Center in the amount of $227, 188. He vetoed Line Item #487 for the Miami Beach Senior Center in the amount of $227,188. This amounts to over fifty percent of their total budget and is the same level of funding that has been allocated to this Center for over twenty years. This Senior Center very'ably services over eight hundred of our senior citizens each year, providing services which improves the quality of their lives while allowing them to live as independenliy as possible. Please place an emergency resolution on the June 27,2001 City Commission agenda urging Governor Bush to restore funding for the Miami Beach Senior Center.
