The purpose of this LTC is to provide the Mayor and Commission with an update
describing some of the areas the Administration focused on during the week of Monday,
July 16 - Friday, July 20.
Budget Workshop - A Commission Budget Workshop was held on Ju1y 16 to provide
an overview of the General Fund, Water & Sewer Enterprise Fund, Stormwater
Enterprise Fund, Sanitation Enterprise Fund, Convention Center Enterprise Fund, Internal
Services Funds and Resort Tax Fund and discuss other budget related issues in
preparation for the FY 2001/2002 Proposed Budget and subsequent discussions at the
Commission Meeting on July 25.
Microsoft Convention - The Microsoft Global Briefing ended on Tuesday, July 17 with
about 2,500 participants in attendance the last few days of the conference. Overall, the
conference was a success. The City has been contacted by a representative of Microsoft
to thank all at the City who were involved for a job well done.
Collins Avenue - Work is progressing quite well on all construction activity. The three
northern most sections of the pipe were sealed, with one block passing inspection and the
other two close to passing inspection.
Upcoming Holiday / Event Weekends - The Administration has continued to work to
assure that planning and resources are appropriately allocated for all upcoming holiday
weekends as well as events associated with the Source Hip Hop Music Awards by
monitoring hotel occupancy; monitoring special and nightclub events; assessing the
impact of City permitted special events; developing and maintaining ongoing community
contact, including with nightclub and hotel owners; researching internet information and
websites; limiting off-duty police avaitable for those weekends to maximize the number
of officers available; developing appropriate transportation plans, and the establishment
of the City's Goodwill Ambassadors Program weekends. A conference call was held on
July 19 with representatives from the Source Magazine to discuss on-going planning for
the event. A City wide staff meeting was held that same day with representatives from
Police, Fire, ACE, Parking, Public Works, Code, Finance, Neighborhood Services, Media
Relations, and a number of other City Departments to review our action plan and
continue preparing for the Source Awards. In addition, representatives from the
Administration met with Barbara Howard to discuss the possibility of her coordinating a
meeting with community leaders to discuss how the community can work with the City to
ensure that the Source Awards weekend is a success for all.
South Pointe Community Meeting - Representatives from the Administration and
Hazen & Sawyer met with residents of the South Point area on Thursday, July 19 to
discuss the status of all construction related activities in South Pointe. Residents were
satisfied with the updates and the Administration committed to meet with them on a
monthly basis to continue providing construction status updates.
North Shore Youth Advisory Committee - A meeting was held on Thursday, July 19
to review the front end contract documents. Committee members were satisfied that all
prior concerns were addressed in the documents.
