SUBJECT: Complaint Regarding Employee Conduct
On January 19, 2009, the Mayor, City Commission and the Administration received an
anonymous a-mail complaining of inappropriate conduct of a Sanitation employee.
The City has investigated the incident and confirmed that a City employee did engage in the
conduct which was the subject of the complaint by our citizen.
The employee in question has been disciplined by the City consistent with the progressive
discipline policy incorporated in our labor agreements. The employee was disciplined for
conduct unbecoming of a public employee. Sanitation employees in general are being
reminded by the Sanitation Management that employee conduct is important and more than
ever in this particular economic time, public employees are under close scrutiny. W hile the
Sanitation Management will emphasize that inappropriate conduct is never to be tolerated, it
will also be made clear that even conduct that may be permissible, but may create
unfavorable impressions need to be guarded against.
