No. R4476 1/29/09 2/13109 CITY OF MIRAMAR MIRAMAR, FLORIDA RESOLUTION NO. 09-99 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIRAMAR, FLORIDA, URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO EQUALIZE FUNDING BASED ON POPULATION TO PROVIDE EACH REGION OF FLORIDA, INCLUDING SOUTH FLORIDA, WITH ITS FAIR SHARE OF STATE FUNDING; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature recently approved a state budget for fiscal year 2008/2009 of approximately $66 billion; and WHEREAS, the state's fiscal year 2008!2009 budget cut approximately $5 billion from the previous year's budget of more than $71 billion, a decrease of over 7 percent; and WHEREAS, a study by the Miami Herald concluded that the residents of Broward and Miami-Dade Counties pay in excess of $7.15 billion in tax revenues to the State of Florida annually, but only received $6.69 billion in return, resulting in a difference of $460 million, equaling $144 for every adult in these two counties; and CERTIFICATION { CfAIIEYTNtS TO 6E A TRUE b CORRECT vOPY ~ THE OAIGF' 1 DOCiMEHT ON FILE AT CITY HAi1 WtT1iE95NY NAhaC AAC trFFICIAI SEAL Gr THE OF IAANAR TiIS 3 JIAY 0.rC .20 Reso. No. R4476 1 /29/09 2!13/09 WHEREAS, inclusion of Palm Beach County in this analysis would likely increases the differential between the amounts contributed in tax revenues by the residents of these three Counties to the State of Florida and the amount of services and programs the residents receive from the state in return; and WHEREAS, the City of Miramar urges the Florida Legislature to strive as much as possible to provide each different region of the state with its fair share of state funding. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIRAMAR, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are made a specific part of this Resolution. Section 2: That the Mayor and City Commissioners of the City of Miramar urge the Florida Legislature to provide each region of the state, including South Florida, with its fair share of state funding. Section 3: That the City Cleric is authorized and directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to the Governor of the State of Florida, the President of the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House, the Mayor and Members of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, the Mayor and Commissioners of the Miami- Dade County Board of County Commissioners, the Chair and Members of the Palm Reso. No. xh47G 1129/U9 2113!08 Beach County Board of County Commissioners, and the Mayors, Chairs and members of all governing bodies of the municipalities within Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties.
