Officer October 25, 2000 Re: Historic Sears Tower Dear Sarah, I am writing you on behalf of the Miami Design Preservation League, a non.profit organization devoted to preserving, protecting and promoting the cultural, social and architectural history of Miami Beach, and the oldest Art Deco Society in the world. We are gravely concerned as the immediate future of the Historic Sears Tower on Biscayne Boulevard. The Sears Tower, has served as a beacon to Miami's 1925 skyline, and gateway to the ~Fifth Avenue of the South". Caesar Pelli's impressive Arts Center design is to include the tower element as a cornerstone to once again welcome all to the area. We must retain this important part of Miami's Heritage. Any demolition of the tower. or related elements would be devastating to the integrity of the tower, prior to securing of full funding for the appropriate retention and restoration of the Historic Sears Tower. Miami Design Preservation League urges the City of Miami to only proceed on restoration work of the Historic Sears Tower once full funding for such work is secured. Respectfully, Michael Kinerk Chairman, MDPL
